The Interinstitutional Statistics Commission (CIE) was established under Article 7 of Law No. 9694 of the National Statistics System and its amendment. 

Composition of the CIE 

The CIE is composed of the individuals responsible for the administrative units in charge of the statistical processes of the National Statistics System (SEN) and is chaired by the General Manager of INEC. 

Functions 

a) Support INEC in coordinating the preparation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (ENDE) and the National Statistical Plan (PEN), and promote their implementation. 

b) Ensure the production and dissemination of official statistics established in the PEN. 

c) Ensure timely compliance with national and international statistical commitments. 

d) Promote the application of technical guidelines issued by INEC as the governing body of the SEN and the adoption of good statistical practices. 

e) Support the operation of administrative units responsible for statistical processes within SEN institutions. 

f) Promote and facilitate the exchange of databases, administrative records, and other inputs for the production of official statistics. 

g) Promote research and methodological and technological development for the production and dissemination of statistics, as well as the exchange of such knowledge. 

h) Submit justified proposals to CDINEC for the creation of sectoral committees and working groups deemed necessary to fulfill its functions. 

i) Perform other tasks assigned by CDINEC. 

Article 8 of Law No. 9694 states that CIE members shall serve on an ad honorem basis. Their participation shall constitute part of their duties as heads of administrative units responsible for statistical processes within the SEN. 

The CIE meets regularly once every semester and, extraordinarily, upon the call of the Commission’s Chair. 

CIE Board of Directors 

According to Article 9 of the SEN Regulation, approved by Executive Decree No. 43848-PLAN, the CIE Board of Directors shall consist of the INEC General Management, which will preside over it, and four members—both primary and alternate—representing the administrative units responsible for statistical processes within the SEN.
